Review of A Death at Raven's Roost by Emily Organ

A DEATH AT RAVEN'S ROOST (Emma Langley Victorian Mystery #4) by Emily Organ will be released on March 27, 2026, by Storm Publishing.

When leads into the murder of a laborer grow cold, Scotland Yard recruits amateur detectives Emma Langley and Penny Green to investigate. Their investigation takes them from London’s slums all the way to the parlors of the upper class as they seek out several suspects who might have wanted to murder Archie. Emma and Penny uncover that Archie might have witnessed a previous murder. He was inadvertently responsible for a life-altering injury to a coworker. And he was also in possession of a locket that could have unleashed a scandal involving the son of a nobleman. The nobleman in question is up to no good, and Emma and Penny take it upon themselves to uncover the man’s underhanded transactions and the corruption behind his business deals.

As always, Emily Organ brings to life Victorian era London through her meticulous research and detailed descriptions. I was not as big of a fan of A DEATH AT RAVEN'S ROOST as I was of the previous books in the series. It was just a little too hard to believe that Scotland Yard would seek out Emma and Penny and ask for their help in a cold case. Aside from that, it was a solid mystery. I also enjoyed the return of Clara Clifton from the Metropolitan Public Gardens Committee.
