Review of HEARTBREAKER by Jensen Parker

HEARTBREAKER (EWE #1) by Jensen Parker will be released on October 14, 2025, by Made for More Publishing, LLC.

HEARTBREAKER follows the love story between Savannah “Savvy Skye” Williams  and John Brooks AKA Brooks Taylor from their first chance meeting that results in a one-night-stand through the time Savannah spends training as a professional wrestler and continues through the first few years of her career as she tries to balance her work life and personal life with one of the company’s top wrestlers. After a misunderstanding about their relationship drives them apart, Savannah returns to a “normal” life while John continues with his career. Despite spending a few years apart, the mutual feelings do not fade. Savannah’s return to the ring—and John’s life—quickly rekindles their romance.

Anyone who knows me knows that I love professional wrestling. I love it so much that I wrote a cozy mystery series starring a professional wrestler. So, I saw a romance novel about two wrestlers, I absolutely had to request it.

While I enjoyed the story, I did find the book to be too long. And there were a lot of subplots going on that didn’t always seem necessary to the overall story. Between the drawn-out story and my initial dislike of Savannah—she’s a cheerleader who knows next to nothing about professional wrestling when she tries out for EWE on a dare, so I felt compelled to hate her on principle—it took me a while to really get into the story.

It takes a long time for Savannah and John to officially get together, and then they’re in a serious relationship for a few years before the big breakup over a stupid misunderstanding. Was Savannah justified in being mad? Sure. But it was nothing that a heart-to-heart conversation couldn’t have solved. There is also no discussion about the problems John’s mother caused and how it contributed to Savannah ending the relationship. HEARBREAKER is an Exes to Lovers / Second Chance story that thoroughly covers the entire relationship. Prepare yourself for a lengthy read, because this is one in-depth storyline.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
