WHAT SHE SAW by Mary Burton will be released on November 1, 2025, by Montlake.
Cold case reporter Sloane Grayson returns to her small hometown in the Blue Ridge Mountains to solve a cold case mystery involving four women who disappeared from a music festival. One of those women is Sloane’s mother. Despite the women never being found, the event’s promoter was convicted of their murders and Sheriff Taggart closed the case. Until the bodies are found, the case will never be closed for Sloane. Sheriff Taggart has since passed away, but, before he died, he passed along his case notes to Sloane. She’s finally ready to investigate what happened to the four women. Sloane speaks with everyone she can who either knew the women or was at the festival. She even visits the event promoter in prison. Someone is determined to stop Sloane’s investigation, she finds herself in danger.
I thoroughly enjoyed WHAT SHE SAW and wanted to rush through reading it. I really liked the dual storyline and how the point of view switched back and forth between Sloane’s perspective in the present and Sheriff Taggart’s perspective thirty years ago while he worked security at the festival and in the following days as he investigates the disappearance of the four women. There are a lot of surprises throughout the novel, as well as twists and turns as Sloane fights against the resistance against her investigation.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
