Mackenzie "Mac" Almeida isn’t a big fan of Halloween—and she hates the idea of dressing up in costume—but she is intrigued by the new costume shop in Westham, Massachusetts. When Cape Costumers co-owner Shelly’s boyfriend, Enzo, is found dead from an allergic reaction, Almeida and her friends in the cozy mystery book club put their heads together to figure out who is responsible for Enzo’s death. Mac must balance her amateur sleuthing along with working at her bicycle shop, searching for her missing sister-in-law, and helping take care of her niece and nephew.
This is the first of the Cozy Capers Book Group Mysteries that I’ve read. It was well written and a solid mystery, but it just did not hold my attention. I wasn’t a huge fan of Mac or her investigative style. I was also far more interested in what happened to Mac’s missing sister-in-law than I was in the actual murder victim.
