A MOMENT’S SHADOW (Verity Kent Mysteries #8) by Anna Lee Huber will be released on August 26, 2025, by Kensington.
Verity Kent and her husband, Sidney, are still in Ireland and hunt the hunt for Lord Ardmore and the canisters of phosgene gas that he stole during the war. Tensions are high as the Irish fight for independence, and the Kents are positive that Ardmore plans to unleash the deadly phosgene during one of the planned protests. Ardmore and his cohorts are busy building suspicion against the Kents, causing them to be summoned back to England. Verity and Sidney ignore directive, using the investigation into the rash of jewel thefts as an excuse. Many believe that the Irish rebels are behind the thefts, prompting Michael Collins and the IRA to ask the Kents to clear the rebels.
I’ve read all the Verity Kent Mysteries, and I’m thrilled that they are finally on the verge of catching—and hopefully stopping—Lord Ardmore from releasing the phosgene and potentially killing thousands of innocent people. To be honest, I was getting tired of the drawn-out phosgene storyline. The search for the jewel thief gives Verity and Sidney a reason to stay in Ireland despite being summoned home but finding the person responsible for stealing the jewels pales in comparison in the hunt for Ardmore.
As always, Huber has thoroughly researched the era following World War I, and she presents a gripping and realistic novel. A MOMENT’S SHADOW is a solid addition to the series, and the cliffhanger has me excited for what happens next to Verity and Sidney.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
