Review of THE BODY AT WATERLOO STATION by Emily Organ

THE BODY AT WATERLOO STATION (Emma Langley Victorian Mystery #6) by Emily Organ will be released on October 23, 2026, by Storm Publishing.

After the body of a young man is found stuffed in a trunk in the Waterloo Station’s left-luggage office, Emma Langley and Penny Green make it their mission to find out how he got there. The victim, Andrew Peverell, was a clerk at the Dead Letter Office, and it is believed that Andrew was killed because he met with a man’s who’s threatening letters crossed his desk. A footman is also missing from a royal household, and it is believed that he was the person to send the threatening letters. Emma’s and Penny’s investigation takes them from the Dead Letter Office to Marlborough House to the Peverell household. Not everything is as it seems, and Emma and Penny soon discover that the threatening letters might not have anything to do with Andrew’s death.

Emily Organ has a knack for picking important but rarely talked about locations in which to set her stories. THE BODY AT WATERLOO STATION focuses on the Dead Letter Office at St Martin’s Le Grand. Most people have heard of the dead letter office, but I doubt that many have thought about what goes on there or what happens to the undeliverable mail. The threatening letters winding up in the dead letter office is a fun twist. But, even if the sender had gotten the address correct, Andrew Peverell still probably would have wound up getting killed. It would have also saved the sender a lot of trouble and saved the lift of a newspaper reporter. Overall, THE BODY AT WATERLOO STATION was an intriguing read. There are multiple mysteries throughout, and it was fun to pick them apart and discover what tied them all together. Even though I had the killer’s identity figured it out beforehand, it was still a shock to see how far some people will go when it comes to covering up their crimes. As always, I look forward to Emma’s next case.
