Review of THE KEEPER by Tana French

THE KEEPER (Cal Hooper #3) by Tana French will be released on March 31, 2026, by Viking.

Retired Chicago detective Cal Hooper has been living in Ardnakelty, Ireland for a few years now and he feels like the residents have finally accepted him as one of their own. After he pulls the body of Rachel Holohan out of the river, Cal is asked to unofficially investigate her death. Cal holds off on getting involved until his fiancé and his protégé are threatened. Lena is also determined to find out what happened to Rachel. So determined that she is willing to get herself involved with the people of Ardnakelty opposed to hovering on the edges. Even Trey is determined to play her part in proving that the Moynihan family is to blame.

While I loved the Dublin Murder Squad series, the Cal Hooper trilogy dragged on for me. I found myself unable to care about any of the main characters. The mystery lacked excitement. It’s mainly just two groups of people trying to make each other’s lives miserable.
