THE BRAVEST HOUR (Verity Kent Mysteries #9) by Anna Lee Huber is due out on August 25, 2026, by Kensington.
After preventing Lord Ardmore’s deadly attack that would have killed hundreds of innocent people, Verity Kent is “rewarded” with a stay at Dublin Castle. She spends several days detained in the castle while exposed to threats and torture before her husband can free her. Still suspected of fraternizing with the Irish rebels, the British tell Verity and Sidney they must prove their allegiance by gathering evidence against Michael Collins and the IRA.
THE BRAVEST HOUR brings the Verity Kent Mystery series to a close. Overall, it was an interesting series, and the last three books closely follow the Irish War of Independence. Huber weave real events into the timeline and uses them to test Verity’s belief in the British government. While there are several secondary plotlines, the main one focused on finally proving Lord Ardmore is a traitor and stop him from causing further destruction. Personally, I grew sick of Ardmore several books ago and the final confrontation felt rushed and lacked the full resolution I felt was necessary. As always, Huber’s novel is well-written and thoroughly researched. Thanks to her and Verity, I’ve learned a lot about the Irish War of Independence.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
